Alex Aiming To Be On Front Foot

29 September 2015

Boss after better all-round performance at Gresty Road.

Despite collecting four points from two away games, Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis wants his side to play better. The Alex take on Phil Brown’s Southend United at the Alexandra Stadium this evening and Davis wants his side to play more attractive football after two resilient displays on the road at Shrewsbury and Walsall.

Davis was pleased with the points tally but was still critical of the overall performances in terms of our footballing philosophy.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We can play better than we have in the last two games. We have picked up some great points and we needed to but we can play better football than that and I’ve been onto the players about that.

“We have played well in a lot of the games this season and got nothing from it. We have had to be resilient in the last two games and play more on the counter attack and we needed to do that to get some points and bridge that gap at the bottom.

“We perhaps got a bit of luck that we weren’t getting in some of our earlier games and there is an element of luck to it. We played really well at Wigan but they scored after a push at a corner and won the game. The decision cost us.

“We are trying to play exciting football and not sit back and look for the gaps on the break like we have been doing in the last two games.

The boss added: “We have two home games now and I want us to attack and be on the front foot and put pressure on the opposition. That is what we will try and do.“
