Young Players Will Make Mistakes

19 October 2015

Steve Davis says young players have to learn from their errors.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that if his players can reproduce a disciplined and hard-working performance at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday evening then there is no reason why we cannot upset the odds and record a second straight away win.

The Alex were unfortunate not to record their first home win over the season against league leaders Gillingham after missing two decent chances in the first half. The Railwaymen were eventually beaten in stoppage time with in-form Rory Donnelly curling a shot past Ben Garratt via the far post.

Crewe Alexandra recorded a superb 2-1 win away at Barnsley last time out on the road and Davis says that result should give us the confidence to do similar against the Brewers tomorrow night.

Ahead of our first trip to the Pirelli Stadium since September 2011, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “It was a good performance from us against Gillingham and the players worked hard. They are an honest bunch and a good group but they are also a young group and they can be prone to making mistakes.

“They can be naïve at times and make wrong decisions at times. That is their inexperience coming through and they have to learn from those mistakes. Unfortunately young players can make costly errors and that is something you have to accept.

“If they are all on it and are disciplined in their performance then we are capable of getting something from the Burton game. If we can replicate the way we defended as a team at Barnsley then we are capable of getting a result. “
