Boss looking forward to one-off tie

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is looking forward to a ‘big day’ as he tries to steer the Club past Vanarama National League side Eastleigh into the hat for the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Alex have gone out at the first round stage in five of the last six seasons, but Davis is hoping a performance similar to that against Sheffield United last weekend will be enough to secure passage.

He said: “We’re looking forward to it. They will be too of course because it’s a big day for them, and a big day for us.

“We always enjoy the FA Cup with what it brings and I know the supporters enjoy those one off games and the occasion so I think everybody is looking forward to it.

“Looking through their team and a hell of a lot of them have played in League One or Two which gives them great experience and knowledge of the level and what’s required.

"We always respect our opponents and we’ll certainly be respecting Eastleigh. They got into the play-offs last season and they’re doing well this season so they are obviously strong.

“I love the Cup. I had a bit of success in it myself by making the fifth and sixth rounds as a player. I’ve always enjoyed the day and what comes with it. There’s always a story there for everybody.”
