Collins: "Real Boost For Everyone"

28 November 2015

Collins praises the players after hard work secures back-to-back wins

James added: "We know we have got to keep on working hard to improve. No-one here things we have cracked anything and we will be back out there working on things again next week. It is nice to win football matches and for the home fans to go home a bit happier on a Saturday night and we have to keep going and pick up points."

"Adam King is about that, getting into the opposition box. That is what he does. He can improve his football and his defending in 1v1 situations but he can get forward and get goals. They will always want you if you are a midfield player who can get forward and score goals. That is what he did again for us again today and it proved the difference between the two sides."

"Ben (Garratt) didn't have too many saves to make but it is never easy in these conditions. They produced some slippery crosses and the ball can hold up in the wind. I am sure there will be a few goals conceded over the weekend where the weather has been a factor so Ben being sound and making those things appear easier than they looked provided us with a good base.

"They defend magnificently and even more so when we had a new player in the back four. We had only had two sessions with Semi but him playing with Ben before certainly help us. Oldham didn't create too many clear cut chances and I thought Ollie's 1v1 defending was very good and so was Jon's on the other side.

"When the wing is howling and the rain is coming down like it is, then it is never going to picture perfect football all time, but I thought we played when we could. Getting the goal helped us with that and I didn't think we had too many scares. Ben didn't have too many saves to make.

After the win, Collins told the club's official web-site: "The past week has been a real boost to everyone after coming off a heavy defeat last Saturday. It was our first big defeat of the season but the players have responded brilliantly. They were 2-0 down on Tuesday and fought back to win the game at Colchester and then they had to dig in at times today to follow up what they did on Tuesday with another win here today. I thought they did really well.

First team coach James Collins did the post match interview following our 1-0 win over Oldham this afternoon and he was quick to praise the hard work of the players as they secured back-to-back wins in a week. Adam King scored the only goal of the game at the Alexandra Stadium to defeat David Dunn's Latics. It was Oldham's first league defeat on the road since April.
