Steve Looks Forward To 'Fantastic League'

7 May 2015

Our reward is another great challenge and more northern based trips

The last game of the season may have ended in dramatic fashion for Crewe Alexandra but boss Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is already ‘looking forward to an exciting League One’ next season.

Crewe survived on the final day of the season after collating 52 points following a tough campaign but Davis says the reward for that is having another season testing ourselves against some big clubs.

The Crewe boss is also delighted that there are more northern games than we would have experienced in League Two. There were a few far trips south lined-up for our most loyal fans and Steve is pleased that their travelling and that of his squad will not be so severe now that we have survived.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I’ve gone on record to say that League One is now the Championship of old. I remember the days when I played and then Crewe were at that level under Dario.

“There were clubs like Grimsby, Stockport County, Oxford and of course Tranmere in there, so I think it goes to show how things can change very quickly and how well we have done as a club.

“I think we are in a fantastic league, an exciting one with the teams coming down and Burton, Bury and Shrewsbury joining us. There are a lot of northern based clubs in the league and that is great for us, travelling wise and for the supporters, who don’t have to go so far.

“We don’t have to travel on long journeys as much and when you look at League Two, I think we would have had about 12 stops overs, so it is great for us that we have managed to stay in League One and challenge ourselves against some great clubs.”
