Garratt: "I Am Delighted And Honoured"

4 May 2015

Ben's fantastic season rewarded with double award win.

Ben Garratt’s consistent campaign between the posts was rewarded with him receiving the two main awards at the club's end of season awards. The goalkeeper won the supporters' vote for their Player-of-the-Season and his efforts were also fully appreciated in the dressing room as well, as his team-mates also voted him as their top performer ahead of Anthony Grant and Ollie Turton in third.

Garratt may have missed the run-in after only recently recovering from a broken leg but his form preceding the injury went a long way in seeing Crewe Alexandra be in the position to be safe. Crewe may have lost their final game of the season to Bradford City but with results going our way elsewhere means we will be playing League One football again next season.

After collecting his double award, Ben told host Graham McGarry on the stage: “I am delighted to win the awards and I wasn’t expecting to win, never mind two. To be voted player of the season by the fans and my own team-mates is a great honour.

“I can only thank the staff, my team-mates, the management and the fans for making it a memorable season for me. I got injured at a bad time but that’s football and it is something you just have to get on with. I am back now and feel fine.

“I am just looking forward to having a bit of a break and then getting ready for next season. It wasn’t nice being on the bench, waiting for results from elsewhere to come through. We were aware of it and you could here at times that someone had scored or someone had equalised. It wasn’t particularly the way we wanted to do it, but we are a League One club and that was our aim.”

He added: “I have worked with some great goalkeepers and Steve (Phillips) Scott (Shearer) and Fred (Barber) have helped me improve as a goalkeeper with the work we have done and I would like to thank Chubs (Paul Rachubka) who has been great with me since he came in.”
