Jones Could Be Rewarded With New Deal

11 March 2015

Boss admits that James Jones is one we are looking at after his sudden emergence in second half of the season

Crewe Boss Steve Davis says he is eager to reward some of his young players after they have broken into the first team picture this season.

The Alex boss has promoted Academy graduates James Baillie and James Jones into regular first-team players this season and he says a reward of a new deal and contract extension shows that the club is aiming to base its starting XI around our own.

because he only signed his first year pro last summer but he is one we will look at. Steve said of the emerging James Jones: “James has a couple of years remaining on his current contract

“We like to reward our young players for their progress and will look to extend one or two of them.

“James is one we would like to keep, so he can become a mainstay of our midfield. He has improved physically and has grown into an athlete. He has worked hard and has shown that he is a box-to-box midfield player.

“He has a great strike on him and he has scored goals in the Academy. He gets himself in good positions and can take a goal. He must add goals to his games at first team level and I’m sure he will.

He added: “With more game time and experience, he will only become better.”
