Boss Would Like To Add Keeper Option

25 March 2015

Steve would like to bring in another goalkeeper if possible before tomorrow's emergency deadline

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he may move for another goalkeeper before the closure of tomorrow’s emergency transfer window. The Alex boss is looking for cover and competition to current number one Paul Rachubka and with Ben Garratt ruled out with a fracture of the leg, the Youth Cup goalkeeper Liam Matthews is the only back-up available to the Crewe boss.

Davis would prefer not to go into the final eight games of the season with just Rachubka, as he waits for Garratt to return to fitness, but another loan signing would take our quota up to six players, meaning one of the current team would have to sit out.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I’m sure we will have more discussions this week and the only position we will look to do something is with the goalkeeper situation. We only have Paul at the moment and cannot run the risk of going with just him in the last eight games.

“We need to have that cover there and we would look to get one who would really challenge for the number one spot. Of course, if we were take one in on loan then that would take us to six and one of the players, who are here on loan would have to drop out of the squad.

“It is not an ideal situation and it is something we will discuss and try and do something about if we can.”
