New Left-Back Options On Horizon

3 July 2015

Davis says club have quickly moved on after Leigh approach.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that he has a couple of other options at left-back after he couldn’t agree terms with our former loanee Greg Leigh. The former Manchester City youngster played over 40 games on loan for us last season and won the club’s Goal-of-the-Season award for his fantastic strike against Scunthorpe.

Steve was eager to sign the athletic left footer on a permanent deal but he couldn’t reach an agreement with the player’s representative and he has admitted this week that any deal looks ‘dead in the water’. The Alex boss is moving onto new potential targets for the left-back spot.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We would have liked Greg but his demands were well above what we had offered, so that deal looks dead in the water. It’s a shame because I think he would developed here, but we move on.

“We have a couple of other full-backs we could look to bring in. They could be available to us and if we can get on then they would do a good job for us at left-back.

The Alex boss added: “Two new midfielders and a left-back remain my top priority and now that Scott (Shearer) has left us, we also need another goalkeeper as well.”
