Boss Warning For His Players

16 January 2015

Steve wants more of his players playing to their full potential this weekend

Steve Davis has warned his players that they cannot go into tomorrow’s encounter with Notts County without the majority of them playing to their potential. The Alex boss provided the warning after what he thought was a drop in that standard against Gillingham last weekend.

Crewe came through the test to eventually win the game 3-1 thanks to two goals from Nicky Ajose and another from his strike partner Uche Ikpeazu, but Steve still made it clear that some of his players were not at the top of their game in comparison to recent weeks.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We don’t have a particularly good record at Meadow Lane. I don’t particularly look at that because it doesn’t have any relevance to the team we put out tomorrow. Our team is very different to the one we had at the beginning of the season, never mind over the last few years.

“Records are there to be broken and our main focus is to go there and get a result. We want our run to continue for as long as possible and the best way to achieve that is by putting on a performance.

“It is a good ground to play at, there will be a good atmosphere and we are in decent form, so we are all looking forward to it.

“People can talk about it being a good time to go because we have managed to pick up some decent result and Notts County haven’t for whatever reason, but it doesn’t work like that.

“If we do not have the majority of our players playing to their potential on the day then it will make it extremely difficult. We need 8 or 9 of them to be on top of their game.

He added: “I thought that only half of them did that against Gillingham, but we were good enough to get result. We will need more of them than that playing well tomorrow to get a result.”
