Tate Was 'Terrific' In Role

10 February 2015

Boss says he could use the experienced Tate in midfield role again

Steve Davis says he would use the versatility and experience of Alan Tate again in a different role if it suits the tactics of the opposition. Tate was used in a holding midfield role away at Colchester United on Saturday and he played a major role in securing a 3-2 win in Essex.

Tate, on loan from Swansea City, certainly added some composure in that role and helped the Alex retain good possession in key areas. His discipline in the role allowed the other midfielders to break forward and James Jones and Anthony Grant got themselves on the score sheet.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I’m sure Alan enjoyed playing in a different role. He likes to be involved in the game as much as he can.

“He was able to influence the game from his new role and was a good foil for the other three midfielders to get forward and support the front players. I thought it worked well for that particular game and it is something we worked on.

“Tatey was terrific for us and it is something we could look at doing again. It will depend on what we want to do and the opposition. With versatile players you can think about using them in a different shape.”
