Fleetwood's 'Incredible Story'

Boss full of praise for Fleetwood's rise through the divisions

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has described Fleetwood’s rise from the non-league as an ‘incredible story’. The Railwaymen host Fleetwood at their Gresty Road home for the first time in their history on Saturday and Davis expects another tough encounter against Graham Alexander’s side.

Crewe have made two trips to their Highbury Stadium, losing on both occasions. We lost 4-0 in defence of our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and lost 2-1 on the opening day of this season.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Fleetwood have done superbly and it shows what can be achieved. They have been financially backed by the owner and have the right man in charge in Graham. It is an incredible story for them.

“They have a tidy ground and the club continues to move forward. They have been able to assemble a good group of players and they play some good football. We expect a tough game and they play a particular way. We know what is coming.

“Fleetwood have come up through the non-leagues and have done remarkably well to reach this division and more than hold their own this season. They can still break into that top six and Graham knows the game inside and out.

He added: “They have players capable of winning the game for them but so do we. If we play well then we have a great chance of getting something from the game.”
