Steve says Aelx didn't show their true colours at Oakwell
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that his side showed a ‘soft core’ against Barnsley at the weekend. The Alex boss and his staff have prided themselves on making us hard to beat in the second half of the season, but according to Davis that was sadly lacking at Oakwell. The Tykes scored from two second half set-pieces to condemn Crewe to their second away defeat in a week.
Following the 2-0 defeat to Barnsley, Steve told crewealex.net: “The players have worked hard to get us out of the bottom four, they have done very well. Now they to keep us out of it and that is hard work.
“What disappointed most on Saturday that we didn’t match Barnsley’s effort and work rate. They were well beaten by Crawley the week before and even though they to didn’t show much quality, we didn’t match their work ethic. That isn’t like us.
“We have been getting results alone on us working hard and being hard to beat and I thought we showed a bit of a soft core on Saturday and it was frustrating because we can do a lot better.
“We became a bit ill-disciplined with our shape and giving fouls away and that was disappointing.
“What we had been able to do in recent months is give ourselves a chance to win the game. We went to Barnsley and didn’t show what we were about at all. “
