Steve: "Home Form Will Be Key"

Steve targets first win of the season against newly promoted Shakers

Steve Davis is looking for his Crewe Alexandra side to take their battling performance at Coventry City into this weekend’s home game against newly promoted Bury. The Alex boss has been left frustrated by the points return but he says that the dressing room took great confidence from the manner of our performance at the Ricoh Arena.

A spirited Crewe performance saw us battle back twice before the impressive Jim O’Brien hit a superb winner with seven minutes remaining.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Everyone is fine from Tuesday. We have no new injury concerns. We only have the usual stuff that comes after a game in terms of some bruises and knocks, but we are okay.

“Everyone is remaining positive, especially after the way we played on Tuesday. We have had two tough away games against sides you would expect to do well this season.

“We were disappointed to lose the game at Coventry, especially after coming back twice but we can also take the good things we did from it and hopefully take that into the Bury game this weekend. We know we have to improve in both boxes as well but I was pleased with the way the players approached the game.

“That level of performance is what we have got to repeat against Bury. We want to start the games better and make sure our home form will be key for us, like it was last season.

“We would like to take the lead in a game because we haven’t been able to do that. We have conceded too many early goals and it has been a problem for us.

He added: “If we could get that first goal and be more in control of the game then I’m sure it will make a big difference.”
