Boss On Shakers New Strike Force

21 August 2015

Steve previews the visit of the newly promoted Shakers.

Steve Davis knows his centre-halves will have to be at their best to keep Bury’s new-look front two Leon Clarke and Tom Pope quiet this weekend. The Shakers boss David Flitcroft has added the powerful and experienced duo to his attacking options and they still have the former Crewe favourite Ryan Lowe at Gigg Lane as well.

Crewe Alexandra boss told the club’s official web-site: “I saw Bury against Wigan in the cup and they have a lot of power and strength running through the team. Our scouts have watched their games and they are a good side and they have been able to spend some money.

“They will have the buzz of being promoted last season and that confidence will carry on into the start of this season. It should be a good game because they score goals but they have also conceded a few.

“They have some experienced players who know the league and they have added the two big lads up front. Leon Clarke never gives the centre-halves a minute’s peace and he is a real battler for the cause.

“We know what Tom (Pope) brings. He is hard working as well and is a real threat in the air. We know what a handful he can be from our meetings with Port Vale in the derby games. They are two key players for them but they also have good players throughout the team like Soares and Mayor.

He added: “They have goals in the team so we will have to be nice and solid and make sure we hurt them at the other end.”
