Garratt Back In Crewe Squad

24 April 2015

Fit again goalkeeper to travel to Coventry

Having successfully made a return to training, goalkeeper Ben Garratt will be included in tomorrow’s squad for the trip to Coventry. The England Youth International has not featured since February after suffering a fracture in his leg away at Barnsley, but he has battled back to make himself available to cover for Paul Rachubka at the weekend.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is keen to welcome back his talented young goalkeeper to avoid the risk of not having a replacement on the substitutes’ bench. His first choice outfield player to have gone in goal was the experienced Alan Tate, but he has been ruled out of the season with an ankle injury.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Ben has worked hard with Fred (Barber) this week and he will join in with the group this morning. He is not quite 100% but he is not far off and he is a better bet than an outfield player having to go in.

“Ben is keen to be available from the bench and offer that cover for us just in case. It gives us that extra security.

“I will lose an option from the bench but we are gaining a player in a specialist position and from my point of view that is a no brainer now that Ben is fit enough to play if needs must.”
