Alex target experienced defender to help young group
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is planning a move for an experienced defender and hope to tie up a deal in the next couple of days. Davis had been eager to bring in another central defender to offer cover and competition for that position and the 6-1 defeat at MK Dons has only accelerated his search.
The Alex boss has already played George Ray, Jon Guthrie, Adam Dugdale and Thierry Audel at centre-half this season and he hopes to have Harry Davis back in contention in October following his long-term absence with a knee injury.
Steve told crewealex.net: “I’m looking to bring in another defender. There has been dialogue with the club and he is a player with experience who I feel would help us. He is a leader and a voice and has been there and done it.
“I just think he would help us on the pitch and off in. It would make a difference to us and we will help the young group because I’ve always said that when you have young players they struggle with game-management because of their lack of experience.
He added: “Those players with experience is what we need at the moment and if I can bring in another two like that then I will.”
