Steve hoping that Ryan Colclough will come back a better player after injury lay-off

Steve Davis is hoping that the news that Ryan Colclough has become a father for the first time will only improve his football career going forward. Colclough is the proud father of a new baby boy and he has been given a few days off to spend with his new arrival and partner.

The Alex boss is hoping that the life-changing moment will have a positive impact on the talented youngster and that he will come back a better player. Colclough, 19, has endured a tough time of late after injuring his hip last season. The injury to his pelvic bone and a subsequent hernia problem prematurely ended a promising season back in November after just 10 appearances.

It was a blow for Crewe Alexandra’s season as the Stoke-on-Trent born winger had arguably been our best attacking player in the early months of the season.

Colclough has made great strides in his fitness and has been able to step up his running pace over the last few weeks.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Ryan and his partner have had a baby boy and that is brilliant new for them. All are doing well and we have given him a few days off to spend with the family.

“Hopefully, becoming a father for the first time will settle him down a bit and refocus him.

“To be fair to Ryan over the last month or so, he has been really focussed on trying to get back. He has made great progress and in the last conversation we had with him before he went into hospital for the birth was that he was feeling a lot better in himself.

He added: “The pain has subsided a bit and he is running more freely and that is really promising.”
