Steve Davis says young Colchester side will only improve with experience

Steve Davis believes that this weekend’s opponents Colchester United just need some time to find their feet after a period of transition. The club have promoted a host of young players from a successful Youth set-up and have only quite recently replaced their manager Joe Dunne with their former Head of Youth Tony Humes.

Humes knows the club’s emerging players better than most and Davis believes that Colchester will only improve with more experience.

Talking to the club’s official web-site ahead of this weekend’s clash at Gresty Road, Steve said: “Colchester are a young team and like us, it has been hard for them at times this season. They are finding their feet and are realising that this is an unforgiving league.

“There is pace and real enthusiasm in their team though and they have been unlucky in a few of their games. They play an open and expansive form of football and have been punished when making mistakes. That can affect the confidence of young players but they will only benefit from the experience.

He added: “It will be a test for them as a group because of the situation they find themselves in but they have their beliefs and style and it should be a really good game of football. They will certainly come to our ground and have a go and we will have to play a lot better than we did at the MK Dons last week if we are to get anything from it.”
