Leigh Looking Forward To Cup Tie

On-loan Greg Leigh looks ahead to his first taste of FA Cup action

Crewe Alexandra’s on-loan full-back Greg Leigh says he cannot wait for this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Sheffield United. His parent club Manchester City have kindly given permission for Leigh to appear in the FA Cup for Crewe and the left-footed is eagerly anticipating the chance to play in a knockout competition.

Ahead of this weekend’s first round tie at the Alexandra Stadium, Greg told Crewe Alex Player: “It’s my first experience of the FA Cup and I’m really excited. I know the other lads are excited too, but for me personally it’s really exciting to be part of such a prestigious competition.

“FA Cup days are definitely different to normal league games but I’m sure, as a club, Manchester City will want me to get that experience under my belt, and it’s all about experience. Playing in the competition is only going to be beneficial for me.

“I wouldn’t agree with people saying the Cup has lost all its glory, I think it’s definitely a competition all teams aspire to do well in, right through the lower leagues and non-league up to the Premiership.

“For me personally I want to work hard to try and get the win because I want to get through to the next round. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and have that feeling of the straight knockout competition.”
