Davis Not Surprised By Chesterfield Start

Alex boss praise for job Paul Cook has achieved at Chesterfield

.Steve Davis admits he was not surprised by the impressive start this weekend’s opponents Chesterfield made at the beginning of the season. The League Two title winners and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy finalists carried that momentum into the new campaign with their manager Paul Cook installing a real winning mentality

Their results have been a 'bit up and down recently', but they ended a run of six games without a win with an emphatic 6-0 away at Braintee in the FA Cup last weekend.

The Alex boss was certainly a fan of Chesterfield’s style of play last season and he wasn’t surprised that Cook’s side have held their own at the higher level.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash at Gresty Road, Steve told crewealex.net: “Chesterfield made a good start to the season and I wasn’t surprised by that. They are a good team with good players and they came into the new season after the high of winning the league.

“They had that momentum and took a few clubs by a surprise but Paul (Cook) knows that this is a tough league. They have had a few up and down results of late but they are getting one or two of their key players back and that will certainly help them going forward.

“Paul is a fine manager and a proper football man. He is a good man and has a good team at his disposal, so it is a game we are looking forward to because they will want to play the right way.”
