Tootle: "We Can Do It"

Captain targets final day win to make sure we are safe in League One

Club captain Matt Tootle says that the Crewe Alexandra dressing room will go into Saturday’s crucial home match with Preston North End in confident mood after stretching our mini unbeaten run to three matches. The Alex have followed up a super 3-1 win at Shrewsbury on Good Friday with two shut-outs against Colchester and Bristol City and although we haven’t been able to find the clinical finish to win either of those two games, Tootle says our form going into the weekend’s finale gives us a chance.

Ahead of the Preston fixture at Gresty Road, Toots told crewealex.net: “We need to go into the game with confidence and be brave on the ball as much as we can. We have done that in recent games and have remained unbeaten in our last three games.

“If we’d lost our last three games it would have been mentally tough for us. Although we all know that Preston are a good side and have been one of the best this season, we are on one of our better runs of the season and we all think we can get the result we need.

“Every time we have been asked to raise our game as have been able to and we have to draw on that experience.

The skipper added: “The fans have been great; they have always been, although there was a spell where they were understandably as frustrated as we were. They can see that we are trying to play the right way and can see the fight and spirit we have shown. We are ready to fight for them.”
