Targetting Better First Half

Steve Davis says about time Crewe started a season in better light

Steve Davis is targeting a much better start to the new season to provide a real platform of points heading into the busy Christmas and New Year period. Davis says lessons have had to be learned from last season and after recording just one win in our opening 11 games last time out, the Alex boss wants a much better start.

After such a poor start, Crewe were playing catch-up for much of the season but came good towards the end of the season to escape the drop into League Two.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We want to be as competitive as we can. We know it will be tough with the four clubs coming up and the three coming down. That is what we want, that real challenge against some really big clubs.

“What I will be telling the players is that it is important we make a good start, because I cannot remember the last time we did here. I want them to try and a get a real platform to build from.

“I want a solid base formed in August, September, October that we can take into Christmas and the second half of the season. We always seem to finish strongly but a good start would make a massive difference.

“It would give us confidence and should result in a better season. Our aim is to have a much better season than we did last season and not be involved in a relegation fight if we can help it.”
