Callum Saunders scores in Wales’ final match in the U19 European Championships in Portugal
Young striker Callum Saunders scored just a minute after coming on as a substitute as Wales U19’s defeated Greece 3-0 in Portugal to end their European Championship campaign on a high.
With only the top nation in the group progressing to the next stage, Wales were already eliminated after a narrow 3-2 loss to hosts Portugal and a gallant 1-1 draw with Belgium – both games Saunders was an unused sub.
But Callum did get his chance in the final match against the Greeks, emerging from the bench in the 68th minute to score just moments later to net Wales’ second of three in a comfortable victory.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was pleased to see Saunders make an impact in Portugal and has stated that he is expecting him to come in shortly to put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract with the club.
