Steve Davis says there has been no real up-date over Clayton's future

Steve Davis says that he has had no correspondence from Max Clayton’s representatives regarding his immediate future. The England youth international has continued to work on his conditioning with us throughout the closed season at the club's training complex.

He only returned from a fractured ankle in April and to his great credit the 19-year-old has worked tremendously hard on his physique and fitness levels in readiness for the pre-season. If his future it is to be here at Crewe Alexandra remains to be seen with boss Steve Davis remaining hopeful that the talented teenager will agree to stay get back playing after injury.

Clayton has been made a substantial offer to keep him at the club and unlike Byron Moore, the club have not given him a deadline over his future.

Steve provided the latest update: “Max has been into training. He has continued to use the weights and working on his physique. He worked very hard to come back from his injury.

“We have had no dialogue with Max or his representative over his contract. We have made him an offer and are just waiting to hear back from him.

“I am still looking to bring in another forward regardless of Max signs or not because we need another one anyway now that AJ Leitch-Smith has left and Byron (Moore) has chosen not to sign.

“Max knows we want him to stay and get back playing football again with us.”
