Final Weekend May Be Left Free

2 July 2014

Steve Davis says that he may leave the final Saturday before the new season free

August and Davis may keep it that way after recalling a last minute injury to Mathias Pogba last season.th August is currently a free weekend ahead of the big kick off at newly promoted Fleetwood Town on the 9ndSteve Davis says he may yet leave the final Saturday of the pre-season free if he cannot secure a high-profile home fixture. Saturday 2

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The weekend before the start of the season is currently free and I am not overly concerned that we do not have a game on that day. It is the week before the season and if we can get another attractive home game for the supporters then we would do it.

“We have sent out a circular and spoke to one or two clubs but nothing has been decided on that. I am not that bothered if it is left free. We played Manchester United just before the season started last year and lost Mathias (Pogba) for half of the season due to the knee injury he sustained in that game.

“All that pre-season planning when out of the window with that injury.

“The problem you have with some of the top Premier League clubs is that a lot of their players have been away at the World Cup and are coming back later this year, or they are going all over the world to play friendly games.

The boss added: “If we were to get a big club then it would probably be against the majority of their Under-21s and we might as well do that behind closed doors at the training ground.”
