Steve pleased with festive return

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has been pleased with the club’s form over the festive period but says that there will be no resting on their laurels as we try and get out of the bottom four as soon as possible. The Alex are currently in the drop zone on goal difference.

Crewe enjoyed two wins, two draws and a defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day to move closer to getting out of relegation zone and Davis admits that the hard work is beginning to pay off.

Following a 2-1 home win over Carlisle, the Alex boss said: “Our objective over the Christmas period was to acquire as many points as we could and try to bring some more clubs into it. I think we have achieved that.

“I thought we were dealt some tough games with Wolves away on Boxing Day and then a long trip down to face Colchester. That was tough in the wind and the rain and it was the same sort of conditions against Carlisle on New Years’ Day but the players showed great character to come through them both.

“The hard work they have put in paid off. They had one day off over Christmas and were in Christmas Day preparing for the Wolves game, so they have put the work in. It hasn’t been easy and I’ve been pleased with what we have achieved in a short space of time.

“Now we have keep going and make sure we build on what we have done. We have to keep that momentum going and the confidence high. We have a bit of break now and we should have Pogba back so thinks are looking better for us.”
