Davis Prepares For Millers

Steve Davis says Alex will be vey different from the opening day of the season

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side have improved since the opening day of the season when we shared a six-goal thriller with Steve Evans’ Rotherham United. Crewe had led 3-1 going into the final few minutes of the game, but the battling Millers stormed back to seal a point thanks to goals from Ben Pringle and Lee Frecklington.

The Alex boss believes that the Railwaymen should have seen the final minutes through to open the new season with a victory, but says it was a harsh lesson on what to expect in a hugely competitive League One.

Crewe goals on the day were scored by new summer signing Anthony Grant, Max Clayton and a penalty from Harry Davis.

We got ourselves in a great position and threw it away really.  Recalling the seasonal opener, The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “It is a game we should have won.

“It is one of those things but we should have avoided it. You also have to give credit to Rotherham on the day. They showed great character and kept fighting, and we are now showing the same sort of fight now.

“It is a confidence boost knowing we can emulate what they did to us if we do go behind on Saturday, there's no need to panic. They have shown they are a good team, their league position suggests that.

He added: “Steve (Evans) has added more quality to his squad but he might have one or two missing. We will also be very different from that opening game of the season and it is a game we are looking forward to after a short break.”
