Uche delight in marking his debut

The club’s on-loan forward Uche Ikpeazu says he wanted to celebrate his first senior goal at Bradford with Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis after he elected to hand him his first start ahead of the unfortunate AJ Leitch-Smith.

In terrible weather conditions at the Coral Stadium, the Alex boss elected to go with pace and power with Ikpeazu operating ahead of his close pal Chuks Aneke and a fit-again Mathias Pogba. From an attacking sense the tactic worked a treat with the Railwaymen scoring three goals in a game for the second successive time.

Uche told crewealex.net: “I haven’t started many games this season before I came to Crewe so I was a risk for the manager to start me at Bradford.

“I told the manager that I was fit and ready. I felt good and was just grateful that he gave me the chance to start my first game.

He added: “That is why I went over to celebrate with the manager when I scored the first goal. I was happy for the team and just really appreciated the chance the manager and the club have given me. There is a good vibe at the club and we just have to kick on and take our back-to-back results into the Brentford game.”
