Davis: "A Great Advert"

8 February 2014

Steve Davis gives us reaction after six-goal thriller.

Steve Davis was proud to have been involved in such an entertaining game but was slightly disappointed not to have won the game after having a two-goal lead at Valley Parade. Bradford City had to fight back from two goals from debutant Uche Ikpeazu and then again after Mathias Pogba had fired Crewe into the lead again with just over ten minutes remaining. Gary Jones hit two superb goals in a terrific game of football.

After a thrilling 3-3 draw, Steve Davis told crewealex.net: "It was a fantastic game and possibly too exciting for the two managers and the coaching staff! It was a great advert for this League because both teams kept going trying to win it. Even when we went 3-2 up I thought that the best thing was to try and get another. We didn't shut up shop and neither did they and that added to the excitement.

"We kept going and dug in when we needed to. Credit to them they kept going as well and we weren't expecting that from them at the start of the second half. They came out and started putting some real pressure on us and looked to Hanson to get those knock downs inside our box. He is a real handful and I have seen him do that to top class central defenders.

"Saying that Gary Jones has scored two great goals. I'm not sure he would have ever struck two shots from the edge of the box as good as that. They have flown in.

"We rode that early pressure and then hit them on the break. Uche has got a poachers goal, and we don't really get goals like that off the goalkeeper so that was pleasing. We were 2-0 up but we didn't want to sit back and invite them on to us but they have scored two goals in a minute and got the crowd up again.

"The lads got themselves going again and Pogs has scored a terrific goal with another great strike and i thought at 3-2 that might be it but Jones had hit another worldie and on the balance of play a draw was probably fair.

"Their goalkeeper has made a couple of great saves and Ben has done the same for us to keep out two close range headers from Hanson. They were terrific saves for us.

"I am pleased because we have managed to score three goals in a game again, this time away from home, but I'm disappointed with the three goals we have conceded. That is what made it such an entertaining game and I would have probably have taken a point before the game because when you consider the conditions and the fact that Bradford are a good side with good players it is always tough coming here."
