Boss On Sheff Utd Win

1 February 2014

Steve delighted by all round team performance

Steve Davis was pleased with his side's 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Sheffield United, as a brace from Chuks Aneke and a late goal from substitute Byron Moore saw us bounce back in style from last weekend's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Tranmere. The Alex boss was pleased with his starting XI and his introduced substitutes as we ran out deserved winners against Nigel Clough's Blades.

After the 3-0 win, Steve told crewealex.net: “We answered the questions they posed of us throughout the game really. We were under a little bit of pressure in the second half but we really stood up to that. On the whole I think we defended really well and took the chances when they came.

"There weren’t a lot of chances in the game and thankfully of the two that came in the first-half they fell to the right man. Chuks is growing in confidence every week and he was unplayable at times today.

"Hopefully the players can take great confidence from this which they should. We have put in a real excellent performance in a game where there was pressure on us.  We dealt with that pressure very well and they have set the standard now.

"I said to the players after the game that they had really raised the bar with their performance level. I have been saying all season that we would improve as the season went on and I think we showed that today.

The boss added: "Everyone had a decent game and did their jobs and if they can keep doing that for the rest of the season we will be fine."
