Players Remain Positive

18 December 2014

Steve Davis says his players are ready for the challenge to make sure we escape the drop again

Steve Davis believes his Crewe Alexandra side are more than capable of turning their League campaign around, but he knows that they will have to pick up some wins sooner rather than later. The Alex undeservedly lost 2-1 to Scunthorpe United last weekend and have certainly drawn too many matches of late, but the performances have improved and the team have become harder to beat.

Davis has added some extra options up front by signing three new strikers and he stresses that despite being bottom of League One there is real positively going into the Christmas period. Of course, the Railwaymen face some difficult festive fixtures starting with league leaders Bristol City on Saturday.

Ahead of the visit of the Robins, Steve Davis told crewealex.net:  “I'm positive and the players remain positive, that's the key. As a manager you take a lot more criticism and you accept that, through that it makes you tougher. It can affect players in different ways but it is important for me not to be negative.

“If you are playing well you give yourselves a great opportunity, and you hope your luck will turn around. The squad looks healthy and stronger.

“Dario has been to a lot of games this season and he has always commented on how good the players are in all the teams – he was saying Yeovil are a good side and they are in the bottom four.

Steve added: “The league is stronger than it was last season, but certainly Doncaster and Scunthorpe knew they were in a game. The performances have been decent. Over the last eight or nine games we have reached a decent level.”
