Steve Davis expecting Oldham backlash on Boxing Day

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side will have to be wary of the ‘wounded animal’ when they travel to Boundary Park on Boxing Day to take on Oldham. After making a tremendous start to the season, Lee Johnson’s Latics have surprising conceded 11 goals in their last two matches against his dad’s side Yeovil and MK Dons. Oldham were on the receiving end of a 7-0 hammering against the MK Dons last Saturday and Davis knows they will be looking to bounce back at home on Boxing Day.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “People will say it is a good time to be playing Oldham after those two heavy defeats but I know Lee (Johnson) and I know he will be working hard to turn it around.

“When you have those types of results it does knock you but Lee will be working both mentally and physically with his players to get a response from them.

“Oldham have made a great start to the season and have suffered a knock-back, so we will be aware of a possible back lash especially at their home.

“We have beaten the top team in the league so we go to Oldham with plenty of confidence. I said before the start of the Christmas period that we have three exciting challenges coming up and we have made the perfect start with those three points against Bristol City.

He added: “We are all looking forward to it. We know they are going to be looking to bounce back as soon as they can and we want the points to give us a good chance of getting out of the bottom four before the turn of the year.”
