Alex boss closing in on loan signings for this weekend

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he aims to be active in the transfer market this week and is hoping to bring in one or two reinforcements. The Alex boss has been chasing another winger and centre-forward for much of the pre-season but has been forced to wait patiently for the right players.

Davis is also after defensive cover to help bolster his options at the back and could be after an attack minded full-back to match Matt Tootle on the other side.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have been talking for a while about getting two or three in and it has been frustrating because I would have liked to have done it a bit earlier and have them in for the first game of the season.

“We have been patient though and waited for the right ones. We have done that for that reason and the targets we initially wanted are still at their respective clubs so we will be active this week trying to bring in one or two more to help the squad.

“I would like some defensive cover and have something on the left side that Matt (Tootle) does on the right when he is up-and-down. I would like one who is quick and powerful, who can offer us more in the final third. I do like attacking full-backs.

He added: “Everyone knows we are after forward players. We have talked about a winger from the Championship and we need a forward because we are short there. There are possibilities out there and we are getting closer. I want to create that real competition in those forward positions and fingers crossed we are getting there.”
