Steve Davis pleased with the way things have gone with summer planning

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he and his coaching staff have achieved what they needed to from a busy pre-season. The Alex players returned to full-time training in mid-June and Davis has been impressed with their fitness levels and ability to transfer what they have developed in training into the friendly matches. Crewe have certainly played more football from the back and have worked on different systems including a new-look 4-3-3.

The new first year professionals have been integrated into the squad as have three new signings from outside.

Davis told the club’s official web-site: “I’ve been pleased with the how the pre-season has gone. I could have not asked for any more from the players in terms of their effort and application.

“We are now into the final week of our preparation for the first game and I can’t wait for it. I am always excited by the start of the season and getting those proper games started.

“We have prepared right and the players are mentally and physically in good shape. We will always do the best we can for the club and the fans and we are looking forward to it.

“All you want to get from pre-season is for the players to develop their match fitness and sharpness. What you don’t want is injuries on the eve of the first few games.

“We have come through unscathed really and I have been pleased with the majority of the performance. The only disappointing one was Macclesfield.

“What you are looking for as a manager is for the players to respond to what you have been doing in training. You want them to transfer the work you have been doing every day in a game situation and the tougher the opponent, the better we have played. Our toughest game was Wolves and that could have gone either way. “
