Boss says the pressure on Wolves will suit his players

Crewe Alexandra will start as underdogs at home to Champions elect Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend, but Alex boss Steve Davis is confident that his players can rise to the occasion and cause a real upset. Wolves are targeting the Championship and a possible 100 points, while Crewe are battling courageously against the threat of relegation. The bookmakers will certainly have Wolves as favourites at Gresty Road.

With both teams needing a result for very different reasons, it only adds to the intrigue this weekend and Davis says being written off doesn’t bother him or his players.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I am sure Wolves will be favourites this weekend and although we are home we will be seen as the underdogs. The bookmakers will write us off, the Wolves fans will be expecting to see their team win and I’m sure there will be Crewe fans who think we don’t stand a chance.

“What I do know is than within the club we think we can win the game. Wolves are the biggest club in our league and have proved to be the best in the division this season but that doesn’t mean that on our day we cannot beat them.

“This club has risen to the occasion before and have had some great results in the past. We have done it before and I look at this group of players and feel we can do it again. Everyone will be saying we have no chance, but I know that if we can play like we can then we do have a chance.

He added: “The pressure is on Wolves because of the position they are in. They will bring a lot of supporters and they are expected to win the game. We know that Wolves will not sit back and look to hit us on the break. They play an expansive game and that will suit us. “
