Davis On Preston Test

11 October 2013

Can Cewe spring another surprise at Deepdale?

Steve Davis is hopeful that another good result over Preston North End could just be the turning point in our stuttering start to the season. Crewe completed a league double over Preston last season, and produced one of our outstanding away performances of the season to win 3-1 at Deepdale last December.

Davis fully appreciates that North End will be an entirely different proposition under Simon Grayson this time around but he admits that with Crewe as everyone’s underdog for the fixture, we could yet spring another surprise.

.Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We know it will be a tough game at Preston like it is always is but it is a game we are looking forward to. There is always a good atmosphere at Deepdale. It is a fantastic stadium and the pitch is good, so there are no excuses on that score

“We know they will be a different team than last season when they were managed by Graham Westley. Simon (Grayson) has come in there and changed things around very quickly indeed. From not being able to buy a win last year they are now going really well and are difficult to beat.

“Simon has laid down the foundation for success through hard work. They pressurise as much as they can high up the pitch and they have players such as Kevin Davies and Ian Hume who will always give you a chance at this level. They have been on a great run under Simon and it will be a test for us but one the players are looking forward to.

“If we can go to Preston and play as well as we did last season then there is no reason why we cannot get a result. It could be a turning point for us against one of the league’s strongest sides.”
