Steve Davis wants his players to transfer their training work into games

Steve Davis says he will continue to tweak and change his Crewe Alexandra team until he can discover that winning formula. The Alex have now not won in six league games following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Gillingham last weekend and the Alex boss admits that the door of opportunity is there for someone to step in and take it.

The Crewe boss is working with a larger squad than last season but with a perceived lack of confidence and players also experiencing a dip in form, it is difficult to name a best XI at the moment.

Steve has been pleased with the response of the players following our second successive home defeat to the Gills and admits that only hard work and desire will change our fortunes around.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to fellow strugglers Notts County, Steve said: “We get most of what needs to be said after the game and then we go through the DVD footage with the players.

“It is a vital tool because any mistakes or things we haven’t done so well are there for everyone to see. The evidence is there and the players cannot hide from it. You sometimes get a reaction from them in the discussions or when we do a question and answer session but normally they open up more in a one v one situation.

“The players have responded and been good in training. It has been lively and they are working hard to put things right but they have to start to transfer what they do on the training ground into matches.

He added: “It is up to me and Neil and James, to find those little things that will improve us and make us better. I will continue to tweak and change things and give others a chance until we find that consistent form.”
