Young midfielder happy after making senior debut

Young midfielder Billy Waters became the latest Academy graduate to make the progression into the first-team squad. The Nantwich-based teenager replaced Mark Ellis in a tactical change at Carlisle United on Tuesday to make his debut for the club and now Steve Davis has used every member of his squad this season except the injured Mathias Pogba.

Waters got his opportunity to show what he could do in the final third of the pitch and he was hardly fazed as he tried to get Crewe back into the game. His energy and willingness to break forward certainly made a difference to us in the second.

After the narrow 2-1 defeat in Cumbria, Billy told Crewe Alex player: “It was brilliant to finally make my debut. It is something you that anticipate and look forward to for a long time so for the manager to give me my chance is a really proud moment for me.

“This time last year I was playing against Carlisle in the Youth Cup so to be playing against Carlisle in the first-team is brilliant.

“Making my debut is a big step in my career out of the way, because before then I was just waiting for my chance, now I have had my chance I have to refocus and try and stay involved with the first-team.”

There is more from Billy now available on Crewe Alex Player. Why not think consider a subscription to Player as the perfect Christmas gift?
