Steve pleased with the combination work of Grant and Evans

Steve Davis hailed Anthony Grant’s performance against Bradford City as his best in a Crewe shirt. Grant was at his robust best, breaking up play and carrying the ball forward into space. Grant was many people’s choice for Man-of-the-Match as Crewe kept a clean-sheet to end a run of three straight defeats.

Following the 0-0 draw with the Bantams, Davis said: “I thought Granty had one of his best games for us. He was intercepting passes, breaking up play and running into space and drawing players to him.

“I thought he was good for us and linked up well with George (Evans) in midfield. George could be pleased with his debut. It isn’t easy for an 18-year-old to step into a team that has been struggling for results when he is used to Under-21 football.

“It is a lot quicker playing in a competitive game and he handled it well. He sees a pass quickly and is aware of what is around him. He will only improve.”
