Midfielder could have choice to make over his future

Steve Davis is resigned to losing his captain Luke Murphy this summer and says any decision on his future will be down to the player. Davis has told the club’s official web-site that the club have accepted a bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers and that Murphy and his representative have spoken to the League One club.

The club can confirm that another club has entered the race to sign the talented 23-year-old but a bid has not been accepted by Crewe Alexandra. Steve says initial interest had been slow in the creative midfielder, but there have been inquires made whilst the Crewe Alexandra manager was away on holiday.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Wolves made a bid that was acceptable to the club and they were given permission to speak with Luke and his agent. There has now been another bid made from an unnamed Championship club and we are in the process of looking through that.

“Nothing has been accepted with that one. There has been interest in Luke but no other firm offers. If we can reach an agreement with the other club then Luke would be free to speak them.

“The decision would be down to the player where he went. We are doing what is the best interest of Crewe Alexandra financially, and leaving the ultimate decision up to him.”
