Steve Davis confident that his Alex side will step up for seasonal opener

Steve Davis is confident his Crewe Alexandra side will raise their game for the visit of Rotherham United this weekend. The Crewe boss was certainly not pleased with the performance away at Chester City or the first 45 minutes against a strong Aston Villa side, but he believes that there will be improvement against the Millers.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We do set high standards here and that has been the basis of our success over the last two years. We have set them challenges and they have usually met them. That will continue because we want to push them on to improve.

“They cannot stand still and we won’t let them stand still. If that stand drops off then we let them know. They know the standard we expect for them to play for this club. We are constantly raising the bar and if they cannot reach that level then there are plenty of players ready to come into the team.

“We want to have a great season. We know it will more difficult with the clubs we have to face but we will be working hard and do everything in our power to keep improving our team.”
