Taking Our Time With Pogs

3 July 2013

Last season’s leading scorer Mathias Pogba is making good progress with his fitness but will need a little more time to catch up with the other players following his thigh operation. Pogba returned to South Cheshire last week for pre-season training after undergoing surgery in Italy and then spending a period of his time recuperating in France.

The former Wrexham man tore a thigh muscle on Easter Monday against Preston North thus ruling him out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final and the remainder of the season. Pogba is now working on recapturing his lost fitness in preparation for the first game of the season against Rotherham United on 3rd August.

Manager Steve Davis is delighted to have his main goal threat back with us and looking to better his previous season of 16 goals in League One.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Mathias is back with us and is sporting a new haircut, which I am told is all the rage over in Italy and France. I thought he might come back with something different!

“That is Pogs though, he is a good guy to have around and he is always smiling. He loves his football and will want to be back fully fit as soon as he can. It may take him a bit of time to be fully up with the other players but he won’t be far off.

“We will take our time with him. Assess him properly throughout and introduce him smoothly so he is ready for 3rd August, which is the most important thing from our perspective.”
