Alex boss targets Area Final against Coventry City

Steve Davis says that his Crewe Alexandra side will start as favourites in tomorrow night's Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Bradford City because of home advantage rather than us being a division higher. Crewe host Phil Parkinson’s giant cup killers in the Area semi-final of the competition with the winners to face Coventry in a two-legged final ahead of a possible showdown at Wembley.

Steve is targeting a possible return to the home of football in the Football League Trophy but stresses that Bradford have shown arguably their best form in the cups this season. The Bantams take a two-goal lead to Villa Park in their Capital One semi-final after a fantastic 3-1 over the Premier League side in the first-leg.

Ahead of the cup-tie, the Alex boss said: “I don’t think there is pressure on the players because we are a league higher or at home. It is a one off cup tie and that makes it tough. Bradford have done extremely well in the cups this season and they will be looking at the game as a chance to progress and take on Coventry in the area final.

“That is how we are looking at it. We are focussing only on Bradford and getting through to face Coventry over two-legs. That is what awaits the winner. We have to take our belief and momentum into the game because it is going to be tough.

“It will be tough, but we go into it with some confidence and are looking to get through the tie.”
