Steve Davis says his side can ill-afford to have too many repeat performances
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that his side will be a ‘nearly there’ team if they cannot put inconsistent performances behind them. The Railwaymen defeated Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena at the weekend, but slipped up against Hartlepool United last night after making uncharacteristic mistakes. Crewe were well beaten 3-0 at Victoria Park and Davis says his side will have to avoid having too many performances like that one if we are to challenge for a play-off place.
Steve told crewealex.net: “It was extremely poor from us and that is why where we are. When we have so many players playing below par then we are not going to win matches. It is about them finding that consistency and avoiding nights like this one.
“If we don’t then we will remain a nearly team. The lads have done superbly well this season but that performance wasn’t good enough in terms of skill or effort. If we want to go to the next level then we have to do better than that.
“Our decision making was poor and Hartlepool were able to exploit our mistakes. We didn’t pass the ball well enough and I am disappointed that we have conceded three goals. It is not very often that we do that.”
