Steve Davis looking forward to meeting up with old pal Sturrock

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he is looking forward to another Wembley trip and a chance to lock horns again with his close pal Paul Sturrock. The former Scotland International has guided his League Two side to a Wembley Final for the first time in 83 years after they defeated Leyton Orient 3-2 on aggregate following a 2-2 last night at Roots Hall.

After Crewe endured that stoppage-time scare, the town is set to be gripped by Wembley fever and whilst Davis and his players will continue to focus on their League campaign, he did take time out to congratulate Southend United.

Southend’s previous Football League Trophy Finals took place at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in 2003 and 2004.

Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “It is ironic really that we will be playing Southend in the Final after meeting them in the play-offs last season. It will be another tough game and I’m sure Paul and his players will be looking for a bit of revenge. It adds something to do after those great play-off games last season.

He added: “I am delighted for Paul and his staff. I have stayed in touch with Paul and he is a football man. He was one of the first people to come on and congratulate me and the club when we got promoted last season and that shows the class of the man. It will be nice to meet up with him again and we will look forward to it.”
