Steve to check on his defender before deciding whether to bring him back in

Steve Davis has almost an entirely fit squad to choose from ahead of this weekend’s home encounter with Brian Laws’ Scunthorpe United. The Crewe Alexandra manager welcomes back his more senior goalkeeper Alan Martin from a foot injury and he is set to replace youngster Ben Garratt on the substitutes’ bench.

Defenders Matt Tootle (illness) and Gregor Robertson (abductor) both missed last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth, with youngster Jon Guthrie making his first senior start at the Goldsands Stadium. Both players have successfully returned to training this week but the Alex boss says he will check over Tootle before deciding whether to bring him back into his starting line-up.

The returning Chuks Aneke is set to be included in the Crewe Alexandra squad and Ryan Colclough and AJ Leitch-Smith did their chances of a recall no harm with goals for the Under-21 against Sheffield United on Monday.
