Steve wants a repeat performance to end the season

Steve Davis says he won’t accept Saturday’s home game against Walsall being a dead rubber affair at Gresty Road. The Alex boss will be naming a side made up totally of Academy graduates, but he wants a similar display to that of Tuesday night’s win over Sheffield United.

Davis was delighted with his side’s battling performance against Chris Morgan’s play-off side and he wants the same level of commitment for the seasonal finale.

Davis told the club’s official web-site:  “The players have shown that they can compete against the top sides in the division. They have done very well against some physical sides and went toe-to-toe with Sheffield United on Tuesday night.

“They haven’t done that all the time but they did against a very competitive and physical side and came through it. It was a real battle and we went head-to-head with them and played some really good football as well.

“We targeted 50 points and that win has taken us through the 60pts mark, so that is pleasing. It is our aim to better that next season now.”
