Chance For Our Own

Boss says he will give his own a chance before re-looking at loan market

Steve Davis has resisted the temptation to explore the options available to him in the loan market to give his own players a chance to stake their claim for a regular role in his Crewe Alexandra team. Davis has been dealt no luck with his previous loan players with Harry Bunn suffering a serious knee injury to rule him out for the season and Chuks Aneke seeing red in only his second outing for the club for a two-footed tackle on Stevenage’s Anthony Grant on Saturday.

The Arsenal youngster will now be missing for three matches, granting the versatile Matt Tootle with his chance to return to the starting line-up this evening at Carlisle.

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Carlisle this evening, Steve told crewealex.net: “We have a few injuries and now Chuks is suspended. We have cover in defence, but with the likes of Mathias Pogba and Michael West still out and Harry Bunn returning to Manchester City, we are a bit short in midfield and in attack.

“Saying that this club is about giving young players a chance and that is what we will do. We will have a look at some of ours, and perhaps give them a chance. We cannot afford to have too many more injuries and will assess the situation after tonight.

He added: “With players out we have to look at other options and that has given us a chance to take the likes of Ryan Colclough and Jon Guthrie with us.”
