Alex boss says tonight will be a good mark

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is looking forward to tonight’s meeting with Shrewsbury Town. Like the Alex, the Shrews achieved promotion from League Two last season, and Davis feels that the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie will be good mark of where the Alex are.

Like the Alex, the Shrews have struggled for goals in a higher league, and Davis is only all too aware of the importance of taking chances when they come along.

Davis told crewealex.net: "Shrewsbury have been doing reasonably well, but not getting results – similar to us in some respects. While they haven’t conceded a lot of goals in the game, they haven’t scored many either, which is very similar to us.

“I listened to Graham (Turner, Shrewsbury boss) speak after a game the other day and he is saying the same things as me. They are getting in there, they are creating the chances, but they are not taking them. That is what you need to do in this league.

"The step from League Two is a big jump and they are still finding their fee, but you need to score goals to win matches. They are not far away and it will be a tough game, but we're looking forward to it."
